Im Jahre 1594 erklärte John Ross von der Kanzel, die Räthe 
des Königs wären alle Verräther und der König wäre ebenfalls 
ein Verräther. Noch mehr, er wäre ein Empörer und ruehloser 
Mensch. Dies wäre auch gar nicht zu verwundern, wenn man seine 
Verwandtschaft bedächte. Denn seine Mutter wäre eine Guise und 
eine Verfolgerin der Heiligen." Er vermiede oifene Verfolgung und 
gäbe ihnen gute Worte; aber seine Thaten stimmten nicht zu 
seinen Worten, und seine Verstellung wäre so gross, dass er der 
durehtriebenste Heuchler in Schottland wäre. m) 
Im Jahre 1596 hielt DavidBlaek, einer der einflussreichsten 
protestantischen Prediger, eine Rede von der Kanzel, die viel Auf- 
sehen machte. Er sagte darin, alle Könige wären Kinder des
